Birchbox Senior Marketing Manager, Vicky, is off to Glastonbury this week… and the rest of us are super jealous! We pinned her down to find out what she’s taking and get her top tips on what you should pack, calling on the wisdom of her previous festival-packed years. Here’s what she said:
Glastonbury (AKA the Christmas of music!) is finally upon us and I’m beyond excited! If, like me, you’ll be shacked up in a tent for five nights, you’ll know that maintaining your usual chic look will be little challenging. Since this will be my third year at my favourite festival, I’m going to share some beauty tips plus the tried and tested products that have earned their place in my backpack this year!
DON’T SHIRK YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE:
You’ll be camping in a field, but that doesn’t mean you should shirk your skincare routine – spending all day and most of the night outdoors means your skin needs hydration and protection against the elements more than ever. Morning and night I’ll be sticking to my fave Dermalogica products: Intensive Moisture Balance, Total Eye Care (SPF 15) and Extra Firming Booster – my dry skin will thank me come Monday.
As for cleansing: at any festival you’re always going to feel a bit grubby. I’ll be treating my face to my favourite Birchbox discovery to date: RMK Cleansing Balm. This balm gives a deep clean and leaves my skin super soft, you don’t need a sink or running water either, just a damp muslin cloth – perfect! After a super-late night Simple Face Wipes are my go-to quickie solution.
LASTING MAKE-UP WITH SPF:
Products with SPF are ideal for festivals, plus I also want my make up to stay in place for as long as possible – touch ups at Glastonbury can be few and far between, especially at night, and reapplying make up in a portaloo or the longdrop is not an option, ever! SmashBox Photo Finish Foundation Primer (SPF 20) helps my Clarins Ever Matte Foundation (SPF15) last for hours, I love that this foundation can be built up without looking heavy – I apply with my beautyblender sponge for an even base. My eyes are quite sensitive, so I keep to a simple flick of Laura Geller Beauty’s Gel Liner – it’s easy to apply, the brush stores in the pot and it lasts forever! A bright lip at Glasto is a super easy look to maintain – two of my favourites right now are MAC’s in Morange and Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 20.
NO-FUSS HAIR RULES:
My thick, curly hair usually survives quite well at festivals – messy hair rules at Glasto! I’ll be refreshing my curls by applying Tigi Curlesque Curls Rock Amplifier when it’s damp and leaving to dry naturally (obviously!), if it’s feeling dry I’ll also rub some biOrganics Secret Salon Elixir into the ends. Most days I’ll opt for a messy up do and ‘strategically’ adorn it with a colourful selection flowery clips and headbands, it’s amazing what they can disguise! Tip: I’ll be stashing my hair accessories in a Birchbox!
EVERYBODY MUST WEAR SUNSCREEN:
No excuses – make sure you pack your sunscreen. Green People Tan Accelerator SPF 15 from my June Birchbox is the perfect size to fit in my festival day bag, I love that it’s 82% organic too – it’s right on the Glastonbury vibe.
That’s my packing sorted. Is it time to go yet…?!!!
